Anatel approves conditional sale of Oi fixed-line unit to Método

Brazil’s telecommunications regulator, Anatel, has unanimously approved the conditional sale of Oi’s fixed-line business to Método Telecomunicações e Comércio Ltda. The deal, valued at R$60.1 million (approximately US$11.8 million), was conducted through a court-supervised judicial auction following Oi’s bankruptcy declaration in August 2026.

The approval is subject to four specific conditions: proof of tax regularity for both companies, commitments to service continuity, the provision of financial guarantees to ensure service maintenance, and the management of numbering resources. Anatel noted that while Método will assume corporate control, it does not immediately succeed Oi as the holder of the authorization to provide switched fixed telephony services.

Oi remains responsible for maintaining fixed-line services until all regulatory conditions are fulfilled. This transition is particularly significant for customers in remote areas where Oi serves as the sole operator. Método intends to use insurance guarantees to meet the financial requirements set by the regulator.
