Anatel authorizes Amazon Leo router for sale in Brazil

Brazil's telecommunications regulatory agency, Anatel, has authorized the sale of the Amazon Leo router in the country. The equipment, identified as model L1LA10, is part of Amazon's satellite internet service, formerly known as Project Kuiper, which aims to compete directly with Elon Musk's Starlink in the low Earth orbit market.

The authorized router features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth LE, and Zigbee compatibility, utilizing Qualcomm chipsets. While the router is now approved for commercialization, the satellite antenna (ODU) still requires homologation. This regulatory step comes as Amazon faces a deadline of August 29 to begin commercial operations in Brazil or request an extension.
