Brazil regulators launch consultations for 6 GHz auction and energy infrastructure

Brazilian regulatory agencies have launched several public consultations regarding major infrastructure developments in the telecommunications and energy sectors.

Anatel has opened a 45-day public consultation for a 6 GHz spectrum auction. The proposal includes 700 MHz of spectrum divided into 14 national and regional lots. A key innovation in this auction is the requirement for digital infrastructure commitments, specifically the implementation of regional hubs and edge data centers in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions.

In the energy sector, ANEEL is conducting consultations for a transmission auction scheduled for April 2027, involving an estimated R$ 12.9 billion in investments. This auction is notable for including Lot 5, which will be the first in Brazil to contract a battery energy storage system for the national grid, specifically to improve reliability in Acre. Additionally, ANEEL is discussing new rules to modernize grid connections for renewable sources, electric vehicles, and distributed generation.

Separately, ANEEL approved R$ 308.4 million for fuel storage in the North to mitigate supply risks caused by potential river navigability issues during El Niño.
