Anatolian Civilizations Museum hosts Hittite heritage exhibition
The Anatolian Civilizations Museum is hosting a new exhibition titled ‘A Hittite King at Yalburt Spring: Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in a Rural Area’. The exhibition focuses on the Hittite sacred water monument featuring Luwian hieroglyphic inscriptions, which was discovered in 1970 at Yalburt Yaylası in the Ilgın district of Konya.
Organized through a collaboration between the Anatolian Civilizations Museum Directorate and the University of Illinois, the exhibition is curated by Prof. Dr. Ömür Harmanşah. It features 40 artifacts obtained during excavation and restoration work conducted between 1970 and 1975 under the leadership of Raci Temizer.
In addition to physical artifacts, the display includes findings from the Yalburt Yaylası Archaeological Surface Research Project carried out between 2010 and 2021 by Prof. Dr. Ömür Harmanşah and Dr. Peri Johnson. Visitors can view visual and documentary materials, such as videos, photographs, drawings, and field notebooks, documenting the entire research process from discovery to scientific documentation.
