Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi's residence raided in Tamil Nadu school bribery probe
The Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted searches at multiple locations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli on September 16, including the residence of former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. The raids are part of an investigation into an alleged bribery racket involving up to Rs 100 crore collected from private schools in exchange for government approvals and statutory clearances.
Investigators are examining whether funds were obtained by promising to facilitate official recognition and other mandatory legal permissions for educational institutions. The probe follows the arrest of P. D. Arakumar, founder-president of the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association and a DMK functionary, who is alleged to have collected the bribes.
Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi stated that the CCB seized documents related to school inspections and Class 10 and 12 results during the search. He has been summoned for an inquiry on September 18 and maintains that the investigation is a political tactic by the current government to target opposition leaders.
