Anchieta-Imigrantes System faces heavy holiday return traffic

Heavy traffic is expected on the Anchieta-Imigrantes System as travelers return to São Paulo following the Independence Day holiday. The peak movement toward the capital is projected for Monday between 10:00 and 23:59, with potential extensions into early Tuesday morning.

To manage the flow, the concessionaire Ecovias, in coordination with Artesp and the Military Highway Police, may implement 'Operação Subida' (2x8). This would dedicate the North lanes of the Imigrantes highway and the North lane of the Anchieta highway to traffic heading toward the capital, restricting southbound travel on the Anchieta to the South lane only. Ecovias estimates a total of 330,000 vehicles will use the system through Tuesday.

Weather conditions have also impacted travel. Fog has caused intermittent closures of the Interligação Planalto in both directions. Earlier in the holiday weekend, low visibility necessitated 'Operação Comboio' to control vehicle descent toward the Baixada Santista coast.
