Ancient cisterns identified in Rome and Jesi

In Rome, a medieval cistern containing clear water has been identified in the basements of Palazzo San Macuto, the seat of the Chamber of Deputies. The structure, approximately one and a half meters deep, was historically used by Dominican friats from an adjacent monastery to draw drinking water for daily use.

In Jesi, political debate has resurfaced regarding the stagnant recovery and valorization works of the ancient Roman cistern (or Roman Baths) on via Posterma. Local councilman Giancarlo Catani has filed an inquiry to investigate the delays in the project. Despite a budget of 140,000 euros and various administrative approvals since 2023, only safety interventions have reportedly been completed. The project aims to complete the structure to make it accessible to citizens and tourists.
