Ancient Egyptian temple complexes at Dendera and Deir el-Bahari

The Nile Valley contains significant archaeological sites, including the Dendera Temple Complex and Deir el-Bahari.

Located near Qena in Upper Egypt, the Dendera Temple Complex is a well-preserved site from the Greco-Roman period. It features a large Hathor Temple constructed from light sandstone, characterized by a dense relief program and a hypostyle hall. The complex also includes the Mammisi of Nectanebo II, dating to the 4th century BC.

Deir el-Bahari, situated on the West Bank of the Nile opposite Luxor, consists of a temple and tomb complex set against a dramatic cliff backdrop in the Theban Necropolis. The most prominent structure is the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, built in the 15th century BC. This limestone temple is designed across three terraced levels connected by ramps, featuring colonnaded porticos and sanctuaries carved directly into the rock.
