Ancient stone inscription discovered during infrastructure works in Pamukova

A large stone block featuring ancient inscriptions and architectural decorations has been discovered during infrastructure excavations in the Pamukova district of Sakarya, Turkey. The find occurred on the Akçakaya neighborhood road when construction machinery uncovered the artifact.

The stone contains multiple lines of text carved in an ancient alphabet, with some visible character sequences including “MNI. . . POY ZON K. . . ”. Experts noted that the block also features architectural details, specifically volute-style curved decorations at its base.

Preliminary assessments suggest the inscription may be written in Greek or Latin, potentially serving as a funerary monument, an honorary tablet, or a votive inscription. Scientific and epigraphic examinations are required to determine the exact period and purpose of the artifact.
