Ancient Theatre of Elis resumes cultural performances

The Ancient Theatre of Elis has resumed hosting cultural performances with a two-day run of the play ‘Stafidokampos’. This event was part of the 36th Ancient Elis Festival and marked the reopening of the archaeological site for public theatrical productions.

The initiative was led by the Municipality of Elis and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia, under the Ministry of Culture’s ‘All Greece is a Culture’ program. The play, written and directed by Eirini Doxa-Lamprinopoulou, draws inspiration from Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’ but adapts the narrative to the local landscape of the Elis plain. The production explores themes of roots, identity, memory, and societal transitions.

The performances featured actors Anatoli Athanasiadou, Anastasis Georgoulas, Eleni Dafni, Marialena Ilia, and Giannis Koravos. The event was met with significant public interest and enthusiastic reception from the audience.
