Ancient yoni stones stolen from Pocangan site in Jember

Two ancient yoni stones have been reported stolen from the Pocangan cultural heritage site in Sukowono District, Jember Regency, East Java. The site is located on the border between Jember and Bondowoso.

Local historian RZ Hakim discovered the disappearance during an expedition on September 23, 2026. The artifacts, believed to date from the Medang era or the period preceding the Majapahit Empire, were located in an ancient burial site known as Asta Pocangsari or Mocangsari.

The Head of Culture at Disporabudpar Jember, Agung, confirmed the loss after a field inspection. Witnesses reported that four men had visited the site under the pretext of surveying durian trees shortly before the disappearance. One of the individuals was reportedly seen measuring the stones. Following their visit, the two yoni stones were found to be missing. Candra Ary Fianto, Chairman of Commission B of the Jember Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), also visited the site to investigate the incident.
