Ancine opens case against Go Up Entertainment over unauthorized filming of 'Dark Horse

Brazil's film regulator, the Agência Nacional do Cinema (Ancine), has initiated an administrative proceeding against Go Up Entertainment for filming the biographical movie "Dark Horse" in Brazil without the required prior notification. The agency says the English‑language production, directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and starring Jim Caviezel as former president Jair Bolsonaro, is classified as a foreign audiovisual work and should have been reported to Ancine before any shooting took place. Ancine attempted to contact the California‑based company twice; after receiving no response it issued an auto‑de infração and set a deadline for a defence. If the breach is confirmed, the producer faces a fine ranging from R$ 2,000 to R$ 100,000. The film’s financing has been linked to ex‑banker Daniel Vorcaro, with alleged involvement of Flávó Bolsonaro and former deputy Mario Frias. Distribution is being handled by Europa Filmes, which has filed a request for a Registro de Obra Estrangeira (ROE). The sanction does not automatically block the movie’s release in Brazilian cinemas.
