Ancine grants registration to ‘Dark Horse’ Bolsonaro film
The Brazilian National Cinema Agency (Ancine) has granted the Foreign Work Registration (ROE) to ‘Dark Horse’, a fictional film depicting the trajectory of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and starring American actor Jim Caviezel, the 100-minute production is set to be distributed in Brazil by Europa Filmes.
While the ROE is a necessary step for commercial release, it does not grant immediate authorization for cinema exhibition. The distributor must still apply for a Title Registration Certificate (CRT) to permit the commercialization and screening of the work. Europa Filmes has not yet established a release schedule or a specific timeline for the CRT application.
Separately, Ancine is conducting an investigation into the production's filming process in Brazil. The agency is looking into allegations that the foreign production filmed within Brazilian territory without providing the required prior notification to the regulatory body.
