Ancona activists demand resignation of councilor Maria Grazia De Angelis

Activists from the Marche for Palestine coordination held protests at the Ancona City Hall, demanding the resignation of municipal councilor Maria Grazia De Angelis of the Fratelli d’Italia party. The demonstrations, which included sit-ins both outside and inside the Palazzo del Popolo during a council session, were sparked by De Angelis’s recent comments comparing the situation in Gaza to areas where Christians face persecution.

Protesters displayed banners and attempted to have a formal document of condemnation read during the council meeting. In addition to calling for De Angelis to step down, the group requested that the municipal administration establish a twinning process with Gaza City and cease the sale of Teva products in municipal pharmacies. While the protest involved approximately one hundred participants, De Angelis declined to provide direct statements to journalists, choosing instead to address matters via social media.
