Ancona enhances road safety with new anti‑U‑turn curb and resumes work on Piazza della Repubblica

The municipality of Ancona has installed a yellow plastic curb at the exit of the fuel station on piazzale della Libertà to block the prohibited U‑turn that allowed vehicles to cut into the roundabout. The measure follows a fatal scooter crash in November that killed Leonardo Burroni and has been praised by local residents and business owners for improving safety for cars, scooters and pedestrians.

Meanwhile, work on the renovation of Piazza della Repubblica has restarted. Largo Sacramento will remain closed to traffic and parking while the construction continues, with a new traffic order directing vehicles from via dell'Appannaggio to only proceed toward via della Loggia or the port area. Pedestrian crossings and access for emergency services are maintained, and a few taxi bays have been allocated. The works, which began in May 2025, are expected to finish by autumn.
