Ancona police officer seriously injured by gunshot inside headquarters

A 26-year-old female police officer is in critical condition after being struck by a bullet inside the Ancona police headquarters on Sunday morning, November 1. The incident occurred between 9:00 and 10:00 AM in the common bathroom area near the staff quarters.

The officer sustained an abdominal wound that reportedly caused internal organ damage. Following an emergency surgery at the Torrette regional hospital, she was transferred to the intensive care unit with a reserved prognosis.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Preliminary reports suggest the shot may have been accidental. A handgun, likely the officer's service weapon, was found near her, but investigators are working to confirm if it was the weapon involved in the discharge.
