Ancona presents 'Odissea al femminile' theater series spotlighting four female heroes

The city of Ancona, together with the Associazione Teatrale Culturale Tommaso Paolucci, is staging a four‑part “lesson‑show” series called “Odissea al femminile”. The project, created by playwright Cesare Catà and director Paola Giorgi, retells the stories of Penelope, Anticlea, Circe and Nausicaa from Homer’s Odyssey from a female perspective.

The performances run on Thursday evenings in September 2024 – 3 Sept (Penelope), 10 Sept (Anticlea), 17 Sept (Circe) in the courtyard of the Mole Vanvitelliana, and 24 Sept (Nausicaa) at the Palazzo degli Anziani. The first three shows are free and open to the public; the final requires reservation via Eventbrite. Live music is provided by The Unconventional Affair, Runark and other local musicians.

The initiative is funded by the Comune di Ancona’s Bando Cultura 2026 and enjoys the patronage of the Biblioteca Comunale Benincasa. As Paola Giorgi said, “nothing is as current as the Odyssey, its myths represent the evolution of the female role.”
