Ancona raises urban bus fares by about 20% from August 1
The Ancona city council approved a tariff adjustment for the local bus network, effective 1 August 2026. Average ticket prices will rise roughly 20 % to restore the financial balance of the service, which has been strained by rising fuel costs and inflation. Single‑ride tickets increase from €1.50 to €2.00, and on‑board purchases from €2.00 to €2.70, while monthly and yearly passes remain unchanged.
Officials say the move safeguards service quality and coverage while spreading the increase evenly across all passengers. Residents have voiced criticism, noting that fare evasion remains common and calling for stricter ticket checks, especially since honest riders bear the full cost of the hike.
