Ancud advances toward highest municipal environmental certification
The Municipality of Ancud is progressing toward the ‘Outstanding Excellence’ level within the Municipal Environmental Certification System (SCAM). Following a field audit on September 16, officials evaluated the municipality's compliance with high-level environmental commitments.
Key achievements noted during the evaluation include the approval of the Municipal Environmental Policy and the implementation of several strategic frameworks, such as the Local Plan for the Prevention and Management of Household Solid Waste (2023–2028) and the Communal Climate Change Action Plan (2023–2030). The municipality has also achieved 100% coverage for segregated waste collection across both urban and rural sectors.
Governance efforts have been supported by the Municipal Environmental Committee and the Communal Environmental Committee, which have held numerous meetings to coordinate environmental planning. Additionally, the municipality has prioritized citizen participation through public hearings, rural workshops regarding energy projects, and community environmental surveys to address local needs.
