Javier Tebas questions Spain's 2030 World Cup bid
Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, has suggested that Spain should rethink its involvement in the 2030 World Cup hosting bid if the tournament final is held in Morocco or if Gianni Infantino remains as FIFA president.
Speaking at the World Football Summit in Madrid, Tebas criticized Infantino’s credibility and governance, stating that the chances of Spain hosting the final are “infinitesimal or zero” if the current FIFA leadership continues. The controversy stems from a dispute over the final match location, with Morocco’s football federation president, Fouzi Lekjaa, previously indicating the final would be held at the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane. While FIFA has stated no official decision has been made, the competition is officially a joint bid between Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Separately, the Royal Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF) is working to position the Andalusia region as a central hub for the tournament. RFAF president Pedro Curtido is forming a specific commission to leverage the region's infrastructure, climate, and strategic location between the three host nations to expand the tournament's impact beyond just hosting matches in Seville.
