Andalucía to launch strategy to protect bullfighting
The Junta de Andalucía has announced a new strategy to protect bullfighting from political opposition, scheduled for implementation in the first quarter of 2027. First Vice President Antonio Sanz stated that the region will be the first in Spain to establish a formal strategy to defend the practice, aiming to boost tourism, employment, and economic returns while protecting fighting bulls and pastures.
As part of this initiative, the government plans to modify regulations regarding portable bullrings to facilitate more events in various localities. These portable venues are intended to serve as a foundation for future permanent installations. Additionally, the Andalusian Council of Bullfighting Affairs will be restructured to include four representatives from regional parliamentary groups to ensure greater plurality.
Sanz also noted that the number of bullfighting festivities broadcast on RTVA is expected to rise this year, exceeding 60 events compared to 53 in the previous year. The plan also emphasizes enhancing security, health, and animal welfare measures.
