Andalusia agri-food cooperatives promote female leadership and consumer awareness

Agricultural cooperatives in Andalusia are launching initiatives to highlight the economic importance and social role of the sector. The ‘Mujeres Valientes’ (Brave Women) forum, organized through AMCAE-Andalucía, focused on the strategic role of female cooperative members in the agri-food industry. Key challenges discussed included generational renewal, profitability, digitalization, and the need for increased female representation in decision-making bodies.

To address consumer awareness, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía has launched a project titled ‘Valorización de los alimentos de origen cooperativo en supermercados’ (Valorization of cooperative-origin foods in supermarkets). Funded by the Junta de Andalucía, the campaign aims to help consumers recognize the quality, sustainability, and rural development impact behind cooperative products such as olive oil, meat, and dairy.

In 2025, the cooperatives in the region reached a combined turnover exceeding 12.6 billion euros and generated more than 35,000 direct jobs. Currently, 615 cooperatives represent over 60% of Andalusia's agricultural production.
