Andalusia agricultural sector faces severe climate damage in 2026

The agricultural sector in Andalusia has faced significant climate instability throughout 2026. To date, the region has reported over 243,500 hectares of damaged land due to various weather events, with estimated indemnities reaching 52.75 million euros.

The year began with six consecutive storms in January and February, causing heavy damage to citrus, horticultural, strawberry, red fruit, olive, and herbaceous crops. The province of Huelva also experienced tornadoes during this period. Following these storms, the region endured a spring and summer characterized by extreme heat and a near-total absence of rainfall, which significantly impacted sunflower crops.

In autumn, weather patterns shifted back to heavy rainfall via DANA events. While the Valencian Community and Murcia were the most affected, Andalusia—specifically the province of Almería—suffered from torrential rains, wind, and flooding.
