Andalusia court awards compensation to worker dismissed due to pregnancy

The High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) has awarded 3,000 euros in compensation to a cleaning worker in Seville following her dismissal after disclosing a high-risk pregnancy.

The worker had been employed for only three days when she informed her employer of her condition and her need for medical leave due to a threat of miscarriage. The court recognized the compensation as redress for “moral damage,” ruling that the company’s decision violated her fundamental rights to equality and non-discrimination based on sex in relation to her pregnancy.
