Andalusia establishes new pediatric cancer care network
The Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS) has established the Andalusian Network for Child and Adolescent Cancer Care. This new healthcare model is designed to coordinate decision-making across the autonomous community to ensure homogeneous oncohematological care for minors.
Presented by Antonio Sanz, the First Vice President and Minister of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, the initiative aims to reduce clinical variability and provide access to appropriate resources regardless of a patient's hospital or province of origin. The network will operate under the coordination of the Autonomous Assistance Coordination Committee.
Two primary Pediatric Oncohematology Reference Units will be established. The first, located at the Hospital Universitario Regional de Málaga, will serve Eastern Andalusia. The second, at the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, will cover Western Andalusia. These units will utilize specialized subcommittees for solid tumors, lymphomas, and leukemias, employing multidisciplinary teams including specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, pathology, pediatric oncology, and pediatric hematology.
