Andalusia implements wetland restoration and public works programs

Andalusia is implementing a major environmental and infrastructure strategy. The Junta de Andalucía has mobilized 86.1 million euros since 2022 to restore and expand protected wetlands, bringing total investment since 2019 to approximately 100 million euros. Key projects include the restoration of the Trebujena marshes and the Carboneros salt marshes in Cádiz, as well as a nearly 1 million euro project in the Salinas de Cabo de Gata to improve ecological functionality and bird habitats.

In the Doñana region, significant land acquisitions such as Veta la Palma and Tierras Bajas have added over 8,700 hectares to public management. Additionally, SEO/BirdLife is working to restore the El Partido stream to support biodiversity.

In terms of public works, the construction sector reports a 22.24% drop in investment during the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. Total investment by the State and the Junta de Andalucía reached 1.6 billion euros. Sevilla and Málaga received the largest shares, accounting for 55% of the total, while Huelva recorded the lowest investment volume among Andalusian provinces.
