Andalusia expands social housing and moves to contest Spain's State Housing Plan

Andalusian President Juanma Moreno handed over 137 newly built social‑rental apartments in Seville's Bellavista‑La Palmera district. The units are energy‑efficient, include garages and storage spaces, and will be offered on long‑term affordable leases. The delivery is part of the regional "Plan Vive en Andalucía", which has already quadrupled protected housing since 2019 and targets 20,000 additional affordable homes and the rehabilitation of 22,000 properties over the next five years.

At the same time, the Junta de Andalucía has taken the first step to challenge the national State Housing Plan 2026‑2030 before the Constitutional Court, arguing that the plan infringes regional competences and places an excessive financial burden on the autonomous community. The regional government claims the plan would require an extra €400 million contribution, six times more than under the previous scheme, and seeks the annulment of several of its articles.
