Andalusia faces 5,855 million euro annual underfunding
The Cámara de Cuentas de Andalucía has released a fiscal report detailing significant underfunding for the region. According to the audit covering the period from 2009 to 2023, Andalusia faces an annual deficit of 5,855.08 million euros based on the financing model approved in 2009.
Of this total, 4,333.15 million euros is specifically attributed to the insufficiency of funds required for fundamental public services. The report notes that this shortfall is a structural issue and is not caused by a higher propensity for spending, as Andalusia's budgetary behavior has remained in line with the average of other autonomous communities.
The audit also highlights a downward trend in per capita financing. In 2009, the system provided 971.07 euros per inhabitant, but this figure fell to 560.73 euros in 2023, representing a 42% reduction in per capita funding.
