Andalusia faces electricity grid bottlenecks threatening investment

The Andalusian regional government reports that the electricity transmission network is operating at full capacity in six provinces – Almería, Málaga, Granada, Jaén, Cádiz and Huelva – leaving only Córdoba and Sevilla with marginal technical reserve. The saturation limits the ability of businesses to expand or establish new operations, curbing expected investment and slowing economic growth in the region.

Authorities also cite inadequate railway and road infrastructure as additional constraints on competitiveness, warning that without decisive upgrades Andalusia could lose investors to better‑served territories.

The situation underscores the electric grid’s role as a key development indicator for the region and highlights the urgency of expanding capacity and improving transport links to maintain Andalusia’s appeal for future projects.
