Andalusia grapples with health service waiting lists as Marbella adopts green‑space initiative

In the Andalusian autonomous community, more than 2,600 people are still waiting for a place in a day‑care centre and 5,687 are on the waiting list for residential care, despite a recognised right for 17,245 dependent individuals. The region now has the longest waiting lists for social‑health services in Spain, according to data from the Imserso and local media.

The Marbella City Council approved a motion proposed by the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) to launch a municipal renaturalisation strategy and a new urban tree plan. The programme aims to increase green infrastructure, mitigate heat‑island effects, improve air quality and enhance residents' health. At the same session, councilors also adopted a request for the Andalusian government to raise per‑capita health spending, noting the region’s €1,658 per person is below the national average of €2,084.
