Andalusia implements pediatric cancer network and telecare expansion

The Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has established the Andalusian Network for Pediatric and Adolescent Cancer Care. This model utilizes specialized clinical subcommittees and reference units to coordinate decision-making across the region, aiming to ensure equitable and high-quality care regardless of a patient's province of origin.

The network features two primary Pediatric Onco-hematology Reference Units: one at the Hospital Universitario Regional de Málaga, covering Eastern Andalusia, and another at the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, covering Western Andalusia. These units consist of multidisciplinary teams specializing in solid tumors, lymphomas, and leukemias.

Additionally, the Andalusian Chronic Care Plan has reported success with its telecare and telemonitoring program. The initiative has recorded 19,588 assistances, utilizing digital tools to monitor complex chronic patients in their homes. This system allows for the remote tracking of clinical parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, glucose levels, and weight to prevent health decompensation.
