Andalusia invests 655,000 euros in A-1178 highway improvements

The Junta de Andalucía has allocated 655,000 euros to improve 8.5 kilometers of the A-1178 highway between Serón and Gérgal. The project is part of an extraordinary asphalt paving plan with a global budget of 151.5 million euros aimed at enhancing the structural capacity of the road network in Eastern Andalusia, specifically in the North and Center areas of Almería.

The A-1178 road traverses the Sierra de los Filabres and serves as the primary access route to the Calar Alto Observatory. Due to its high altitude, reaching nearly 2,000 meters, the road faces harsh winter weather conditions. The improvements target sections above 1,700 meters where the pavement had suffered significant wear from heavy rainfall.
