Andalusia leaders demand more resources after narco-boat collision

Andalusian President Juanma Moreno has called for increased resources and full state support for security forces following an incident in Huelva waters. During a pursuit on Thursday afternoon, a narco-boat rammed a Guardia Civil patrol vessel, causing visible structural damage and resulting in minor injuries to several agents.

The incident began when the patrol boat ‘Río Guadalmedina’ detected the transfer of fuel canisters between two high-speed vessels near the mouth of the Guadalquivir river. Upon noticing the police, one of the suspect boats fled at high speed, leading to a chase that extended toward the Huelva coast. Despite the collision, officers continued the pursuit and successfully intercepted the vessel, arresting five occupants.

Regional officials, including Vice President Manuel Gavira, have criticized the central government for a perceived lack of human, material, and legal resources to combat expanding drug trafficking operations along the Andalusian coast. Moreno warned that criminal mafias are spreading across the region, increasing the risk of further tragedies during law enforcement interventions.
