Andalusia manages dual emergencies from Niebla fire and Granada earthquake
Andalusia is currently managing a dual emergency involving a massive forest fire in Niebla, Huelva, and a magnitude 5 earthquake in Alhendín, Granada. The fire has affected over 38,000 hectares, making it one of the largest summer wildfires in the region.
King Felipe VI contacted the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, to express support and inquire about the evolution of both the fire and the seismic activity affecting municipalities in Granada. The King's call acknowledged the role of local mayors and the municipal network in the emergency response.
In contrast, the PSOE-A has criticized President Moreno's response. Mario Jiménez, the party's Secretary of Statutory Development, accused Moreno of being indolent and irresponsible for not visiting the fire zone sooner, noting that the President was on vacation while the emergency developed and while emergency workers were being injured.
