Andalusia municipalities expand local police forces

Municipal governments in Andalusia are expanding their local police forces to enhance public security.

In Andújar, the City Council has launched the selection process for eight new police positions. The first phase, consisting of theoretical exams, was held at IES Jándula with 325 applicants. Mayor Francisco Carmona Limón stated that these additions aim to ensure high-quality public services and a workforce capable of meeting the city's needs. Once completed, the local police force will total 54 officers.

In Jerez, the local government has approved the recruitment of 52 new local police officers to be filled between 2024 and 2026. Of these positions, 43 will be filled through competitive examinations and nine through merit-based mobility. Mayor María José García-Pelayo noted that this initiative aims to increase the force from approximately 283 to 330 officers within a year and a half, reducing pressure on current personnel and improving response capabilities.
