Andalusia prepares for 2027 total solar eclipse

A 365‑day countdown to the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2027 has begun, marking the first total eclipse visible from Andalusia in more than a century. The eclipse will be total over 115 municipalities across the provinces of Almería, Cádiz, Granada and Málaga, offering a prolonged period of darkness lasting several minutes and attracting scientific interest and tourism.

On 2 August 2026 local authorities in the region will conduct a logistical and safety assessment, testing access routes, parking, public services and crowd‑control measures to prepare for the expected influx of visitors during the summer event. The evaluation aims to identify optimal observation sites, mitigate traffic congestion and ensure adequate medical and security provisions for the eclipse day.
