Andalusia public healthcare faces criticism over long waiting lists

Public healthcare in Andalusia is facing significant criticism regarding service delays and infrastructure management. In Puerto Real, a patient has reportedly been waiting over 18 months for a follow-up consultation following a colonoscopy, despite formal complaints and hospital acknowledgment of the pending appointment.

In Almería, the PSOE has denounced a ‘healthcare breakdown’ during a visit by regional President Juanma Moreno. Critics highlight saturated emergency rooms at Torrecárdenas and Poniente hospitals, as well as primary care delays where waiting times for appointments via Salud Responde exceed 17 days in certain municipalities. Concerns were also raised regarding the staffing needs for the new Roquetas de Mar Hospital and the ongoing situation at Hospital La Inmaculada in Huércal-Overa.
