Andalusia public university graduates face employment challenges

A report from the Argos Observatory, involving the Andalusian Employment Service and ten public universities, reveals that 57% of graduates from public universities in Andalusia are employed one year after graduation.

The data shows significant disparities between fields of study, with Engineering and Architecture reaching a 77% employment rate, while Social and Legal Sciences stand at 56%. The report also highlights challenges regarding job quality: graduates take an average of more than five months to find their first job. Of those who find employment, more than half hold temporary contracts, 60% work in positions below their qualification level, and 40% are in part-time roles.

In comparison to national data from the Ministry of Universities, public university graduates in Andalusia show higher Social Security affiliation rates one year after graduation (45%) compared to private university graduates (41%), a trend that differs from the rest of Spain. However, private institutions tend to offer better contract quality over the long term, with 70% of private graduates holding permanent contracts four years after finishing their studies.
