Andalusia reports 4% drop in horticulture volume for 2025/26 campaign
The 2025/26 protected horticulture campaign in Andalusia has seen a 4% decrease in traded volume compared to the previous year, according to the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Junta de Andalucía. This contraction is attributed to adverse weather conditions and pest infestations. However, a general rise in farm-gate prices has increased the overall value of production, despite rising costs for fuel, fertilizers, and labor.
Specific crop performance includes cucumbers, which saw a 36% price increase, and zucchini, which rose by 34% due to reduced competition from Morocco. Tomato prices increased by 24%, while eggplant prices rose by 34%. Conversely, pepper production fell by approximately 10% due to pest pressure.
To promote its agricultural sector, the Junta de Andalucía will participate in several food fairs during the second half of 2026, including Auténtica Premium Food in Seville and Fruit Attraction in Madrid. These appearances will be made under the ‘Gusto del Sur’ quality brand to showcase the region's innovation and food security to international markets.
