Andalusia to remove term limits for Chamber of Commerce presidents

The Government of Andalusia has confirmed it will move to reform Law 4/2019 to eliminate term limits for the presidents of the regional Chambers of Commerce. This decision follows a request from the Andalusian Council of Chambers of Commerce, where the proposal passed with ten votes in favor and five against.

Currently, presidents of these public law institutions are restricted to two terms, totaling eight years. Under the existing law, ten of the thirteen current presidents in Andalusia would be ineligible for reelection. The reform aims to align regional regulations with the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, which does not impose such limits.

The Ministry of Employment, led by Rocío Blanco, will prepare a preliminary draft of the law. Once approved by the Government Council, the text will be sent to the Parliament of Andalusia for amendments and a final vote. Elections for the chambers are expected to be called in March 2027, with voting taking place after the following summer.
