Andalusia urges Spanish government to drop financing reform proposal
The Junta of Andalusia, led by Vice President Carolina España, has asked the central Spanish government to withdraw its proposal to renew the state financing model that expired in 2014 after being in force since 2009. The request was made ahead of the Council of Fiscal and Financial Policy (CPFF) meeting scheduled for 4 September, after the meeting was postponed at the request of regions governed by the PP.
Carolina España argued that the new model would leave Andalusia €143 per capita below the national average and up to €389 per capita less than Catalonia, claiming it favours certain territories and penalises Andalusia. The proposal was originally presented by former finance minister María Jesús Montero and is now under the current minister Arcadi España. The Andalusian government says the model lacks equality and seeks a fair distribution of fiscal resources.
