Andalusian beach entrepreneurs warn of impact from new Coastal Law

Francisco Trujillo, Vice President of the Andalusian and National Federation of Beach Entrepreneurs (Faeplayas), has warned that upcoming modifications to Spain’s General Coastal Regulations could signal ‘the beginning of the end’ for the traditional beach bar (chiringuito) model in Andalusia.

Business leaders express concern over a lack of legal certainty and the potential loss of long-term investment stability. Trujillo noted that existing concessions, some originally granted for 30 years, face uncertainty under the new rules. He warned that the changes could fundamentally transform the local tourism economy and erode the traditional cultural values that these establishments provide to the region.

Representatives from the federation have reportedly attempted to meet with the Ministry of Environment and the Secretary of State to discuss these concerns, but have faced difficulties in securing these meetings.
