Andalusian biogas plant projects meet citizen opposition and legal scrutiny

The Junta de Andalucía has opened a public comment period for a biogas/biomethane plant to be built by AGR Biogás SA in Morón, located near the A‑360 road in the Mancera area. Local residents, especially those in the La Ramira urbanisation, have raised concerns about the proximity of the facility—less than two kilometres from homes—and the potential for unpleasant odors, particularly when winds blow towards the town. AMA Morón’s spokesperson, Isidoro Albarreal, criticised the timing of the consultation, which ends on 13 August, and urged citizens to review the documentation, citing a similar plant in nearby Arahal that has generated odor complaints.

In Baena, the environmental group Ecologistas en Acción submitted about thirty formal objections to the Integrated Environmental Authorization for a biometane plant promoted by Hojiblanca Biometano (El Tejar). The group alleges violations of Andalusian law, methodological flaws in odor‑impact studies, and possible illegal industrial encroachment on rural land. It also warns that the project could threaten the local population of the red‑capped linnet (Cercotrichas galactores) and increase intensive livestock farming without proper sustainability assessments.
