Andalusian Contemporary Art Center launches 'La última pintura' exhibition

The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) opened the group show 'La última pintura' on Tuesday, with acting culture councilor Patricia del Pozo presiding over the inauguration. Curated by Curro González and Alberto Figueroa, the exhibition brings together 27 emerging painters born between 1977 and 1998 alongside five established artists.

Among the participants are Granadan Carlos Cañadas, who explores the mythic antagonists of Lucky Luke, and Cordoban Fran Baena, who translates internet memes into painted commentary on housing crises and life‑stress. The show’s title reflects a long‑standing criticism of painting as a dying medium, but the works demonstrate its vitality across social critique, historical memory, aesthetic pleasure and reflections on the artistic process.

The catalogue also includes contributions from Marta Beltrán, Gloria Martín and others, while a kinetic device by Cachito Vallés evokes the painting machines of the 1964 film *Ella y sus maridos*. Organisers describe the show as a "territory of encounter" bridging generations of Spanish artists.
