Andalusian doctors announce indefinite strike

The Sindicato Médico Andaluz (SMA) has announced an indefinite strike for doctors and medical professionals in Andalusia, scheduled to begin on November 13, 2026. The mobilization will start with three weeks of continuous 24-hour stoppages lasting until December 4, with further calls to action to be announced based on negotiation progress.

The strike breaks a truce established on July 29, when the union and the regional Ministry of Health signed a pact intended to improve working conditions and compensation. The SMA claims the strike is necessary due to a “lack of progress” in implementing the agreement, specifically citing the government's refusal to establish a concrete timeline for the improvements.

In response, the regional government (Junta) has stated that the strike is “senseless” because a signed commitment exists that guarantees compliance. The administration has also questioned the timing of the strike, occurring only two months after a four-year agreement was signed and coinciding with a pre-election campaign period.
