Andalusian Government Overhauls Ministries, Corrects Competency Errors and Expands Police Forces

The Junta de Andalucía has issued a rapid correction to its recent decree on ministerial competencies, amending five points within 48 hours after internal ministries flagged errors. The changes reassign the Innovation and Development Agency (IDEA) to the Ministry of University, Industry, Energy and Innovation and move youth policy responsibilities to the Ministry of Housing, Youth and Territorial Planning.

In parallel, the regional cabinet approved a wave of senior appointments, naming nine new vice‑consejeros and ten technical secretaries across twelve ministries, including the new vice‑consejero for Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration and the continuation of vice‑consejero José Repiso in Social Services, Families and Equality.

The government also announced plans to strengthen public safety: Vice‑president Antonio Sanz outlined the incorporation of at least 62 new officers into the Andalusian Police Unit (UPA) and the acquisition of new vehicles, while the IESPA graduation ceremony added 80 local police officers to municipalities in Cádiz, Huelva and Sevilla.

Separately, the regional PSOE has demanded an audit of former Andalucía Global director Jorge Vázquez, alleging possible links to a criminal network involved in money‑laundering and drug trafficking, and has called for explanations from Vice‑president Antonio Sanz.

President Juanma Moreno, in his first council meeting, emphasized a governance agenda focused on “the common good over ideologies,” pledging swift budget approval for 2027 and a collaborative approach between the PP and Vox coalition.
