Andalusia launches 'Sun and Healthy Skin' campaign to curb skin cancer
The Andalusian regional health authority, together with the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC) and the public foundation IAVANTE, rolled out a public‑health campaign called “Sol y piel sana no son incompatibles” (Sun and healthy skin are not incompatible). The initiative, presented by Vice President Antonio Sanz in Almería, aims to raise awareness of skin‑cancer prevention during the summer months.
The campaign – now active in all eight Andalusian provinces and in 208 municipalities – promotes three simple measures: protect yourself with sunscreen, shade or clothing; review your skin regularly for changes; and consult a health professional if you notice anything suspicious. Organisers recommend re‑applying sunscreen at least every two hours, avoiding the peak UV period between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., seeking shade, wearing hats and UV‑blocking glasses, and staying hydrated. Informational stands and talks were held in Granada and Córdoba, where health officials and AECC representatives distributed advice and printed material.
Skin cancer is the most preventable cancer type in Spain, with roughly 80,000 new cases diagnosed each year, prompting the region’s strong emphasis on sustained sun‑protection habits beyond the beach season.
