Andalusian provincial councils identify water as key to housing

Representatives from the eight provincial councils of Andalusia met to discuss regional challenges, identifying water infrastructure as a critical requirement for expanding housing availability. While political tensions were noted between leaders from Jaén and Córdoba, there was a consensus that land alone is insufficient for new developments.

Francisco Salado, president of the Málaga Provincial Council, emphasized that water, electricity, and mobility plans are essential prerequisites for construction. He noted that in Málaga, approximately 25,000 homes cannot be delivered or built due to a lack of electrical supply.

In Córdoba, President Salvador Fuentes stressed the need for localized studies to combat depopulation effectively rather than implementing generic construction plans. Meanwhile, Gonzalo Domínguez of the Seville Provincial Council advocated for the expansion of protected housing models, similar to those implemented in Alcalá de Guadaíra and Dos Hermanas, calling for support from the Ministry and the Regional Government.
