Andalusian seniors' federation urges Junta to stop nursing home staff exodus

The Federación de Organizaciones Andaluzas de Mayores (FOAM) has warned that a mass departure of qualified nursing home personnel – including university‑trained nurses and auxiliary caregivers – is moving to the Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS). FOAM attributes the migration to a salary gap of up to 40 % between residential care staff and their counterparts in the public health system, as well as limited recognition of Covid‑era experience.

The federation says the loss threatens staff stability, continuity of care and the wellbeing of institutionalised older people in Andalusia. It is calling on the Junta de Andalucía for urgent measures: raise residential staff wages to match the national average, adjust budgetary tariffs for concerted places, introduce a shock‑plan to retain talent, improve staff‑to‑resident ratios and formally recognise the professional experience of residential caregivers.
