Andalusian towns Cabra and Almonte host major Virgin festivals in August

The municipality of Cabra in Andalusia is preparing the XIII Romería de Votos y Promesas in honor of the Virgen de la Sierra. The celebration begins on the evening of 14 August with a devotional procession, followed by a full day of events on 15 August, including the Misa del Peregrino at 10:00, a solemn Eucharist at 12:00, and a traditional procession of the image through the sanctuary.

In the nearby town of Almonte, officials have launched the “Cara a Cara” programme to make the Venida of the Virgen del Rocío accessible to seniors and people with disabilities. An accessible space will be set up under the town hall for visitors to view the Virgin’s passage on 20 August and during the later procession when the Virgin returns to the village. Mayor Francisco Bella highlighted the initiative as a way to ensure that no resident is excluded from this deeply rooted local celebration.
